The Viken deposit contains several different minerals and metals. These occur in a geological formation known as alum shale. Bergslagen Metals is also currently exploring for alum shale in other parts of Sweden with the aim of identifying deposits with similar characteristics to Viken.
It is what is known as a polymetallic deposit, meaning that several different elements occur within the same geological formation.
The primary minerals identified in the area include:
- Uranium (U)
- Vanadin (V)
- Potassium (potash)
- Molybdenum (Mo)
- Nickel (Ni)
- Zinc (Zn)
- Copper (Cu)
- Rare earth elements (REE)
These minerals have various applications in energy, industry, infrastructure, and agriculture.
