What exactly is Alum Shale and why does it contain so many metals?

Alum shale is a dark, fine-grained sedimentary rock formed about 500 million years ago from clay, organic matter, and volcanic ash on the sea floor. Over time, chemical processes enriched it with metals like vanadium, uranium, molybdenum, nickel, zinc, and copper.
