Sweden is one of Europe’s most important mining nations and has chosen to keep its mineral sector open to international investments. According to the government’s policy document Sveriges mineralstrategi (Sweden’s Minerals Strategy), “foreign capital and foreign skills have historically played important roles” and continued international cooperation is vital for maintaining Sweden’s competitiveness and innovation capacity.
Foreign companies are therefore welcome to apply for exploration and mining permits under the same legislation and tax rules as Swedish companies. This open approach attracts knowledge, technology and financial capital to Sweden’s mining regions and supports the country’s long-term goals for sustainable growth, employment and innovation.
